American Preparatory Academy is a classical liberal arts school. Everything we do serves one purpose: helping every student flourish, in school and for the rest of their lives.
At American Prep, we pursue truth, beauty and virtue alongside our students. We focus our efforts on the liberal arts, and we bring humility and diligence to everything we study.
Our students flourish as they grow in three ways: they become academically proficient, they develop strong moral character, and they gain a desire to make a positive difference in their communities. Each school day, we practice the skills that make all three possible.
To provide a classical, liberal arts education through an orderly, safe and nurturing learning environment wherein content-rich, efficient curriculum and research-based instructional methodologies are utilized to ensure that every student achieves academic success and develops good character based on concrete measurements.
Academic achievement and character development are the two pillars of an American Prep education. They are equally important, and both must be present for a student to truly flourish. Together, they grow a young person who wants to make a difference.
01
Students learn to think through ideas in clear, logical ways while gaining deep, rich knowledge of history, science, Latin, literature, poetry and mathematics.
02
Character is part of every lesson. Students meet examples of virtue in literature, history, Latin and even science, then practice those virtues in class, clubs, sports, music and drama.
03
The fruit of both pillars is a young person who wants to give back. We help students see their own potential and use it to strengthen their families, schools and communities.
A classical classroom is built on language. Reading asks the mind to work, turning words into ideas and making connections. That effort builds both understanding and confidence to take on harder books.
Students study the people, ideas and events that shaped the world. Deep content gives them something real to think about and the background to think well.
Aristotle taught that we become kind by doing kind acts and diligent by working diligently. Our teachers guide students in practicing good habits of scholarship and character every day.
Music, art, choir, band and orchestra are part of every student’s education, building discipline, confidence and an appreciation for what is beautiful.
Our founders wrote that all people are created equal and endowed with unalienable rights, among them life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We believe those words describe every student and staff member at American Prep.
We teach history honestly and in age-appropriate ways, including the chapters where our nation fell short, alongside the ideals that have opened unparalleled opportunity to so many. We want students to understand the legacy they have inherited and their part in carrying it forward.
We aim for more than tolerance. We want students to treat others with kindness and encouragement, and to see each person as a unique individual with great potential. At American Prep, we feed what we wish to grow.
Character grows best through patient, individual guidance. When a student stumbles, teachers respond with kindness and help them choose a better path, rather than relying on group lectures.
Each year, every campus honors a student from each grade, plus a teacher, staff member and volunteer, with our Builders Award for the character, kindness and diligence that make our schools great.
Every student has the same right to participate fully in our programs and to develop diligence, humility and scholarship. Each student and staff member is respected as a full and equal member of our community.
Our community is often called the APA Family, and we work to make sure every student, staff member and parent knows they are an important part of it.
