From a child’s first reading lesson to high school graduation, American Prep pairs a content-rich classical curriculum with deliberate character development. Here is how it works.
Every part of our model serves two equally important goals: academic achievement and character development. A student needs both to truly flourish.
We pursue those goals in a cheerful, orderly environment where strong relationships with teachers and classmates come first. Students know what is expected of them, feel safe trying hard things, and are encouraged as they grow.
In reading, spelling and math, students learn in small groups of about 5 to 15, placed by skill rather than by grade alone. Groups are fluid, so a student can move ahead as soon as they are ready or get extra practice when they need it.
Students practice core skills until they come naturally, then build on them step by step. That firm foundation frees them to think conceptually and to express themselves well in writing and conversation.
From kindergarten through 8th grade, the Core Knowledge Sequence gives students a rich, connected education in history, science, literature, poetry, geography, music and art.
We choose curricula backed by research, such as Spalding spelling and Saxon Math, and track student progress closely so teachers can adjust instruction for each child.
Each stage builds on the one before it, so students arrive at the next level ready for what it asks of them.
Kindergarten to 6th grade
Young students build strong foundations in reading, writing and math alongside history, science, poetry and art.
7th and 8th grade
Students take on more independent work, with plenty of writing and discussion that prepares them for high school.
9th to 12th grade
A liberal arts education that prepares students for university study, a career and a life of contribution.
Grade levels vary by campus. Visit Our Schools to find the right campus for your family.
Character development is part of every school day, not an add-on. Students meet examples of virtue in what they read and study, then practice those virtues with the guidance of teachers who know them well.
Themed workshops teach etiquette, public speaking, introductions and social dance, the everyday skills that help students carry themselves with confidence.
Older students learn leadership from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and can serve on the Ambassador Council and in student government.
Service learning projects give students regular practice caring for their schools, families and communities.
Assemblies and our Builders Award honor students for the kindness, diligence and character that make our schools great.
Life at American Prep reaches well beyond the classroom. On a team, on stage or in a club, students build the same discipline, teamwork and confidence we teach in class, and find a place to share what they love.
