Hello Cedar Valley elementary school parents! We are seeking input from your school community about your level of interest in having our school, American Prep Academy, serving your children in the fall of 2026 at Cedar Valley elementary school. American Prep is a public charter school, free to parents, with open enrollment for all K-6 students who wish to apply.
American Prep (APA) was recently approved to bring a charter school to the Eagle Mountain area. We are planning on building a school in or near the Firefly community in a future year. Soon after our approval, we read about the closing of Cedar Valley Elementary. Districts are being faced with difficult decisions as Utah’s population changes, and we can only imagine the difficulties the closing of your school places on your families to change schools.
The new school District President and Vice President of Lake Mountain School District met with us regarding our new school and they expressed their concern for the Cedar Fort families due to the necessary closure of that district school. Over the following weeks our leadership team at APA met and discussed whether it would be feasible to open our charter school this fall. We asked to tour the current Cedar Valley facility and the Lake Mountain board leaders hosted us and answered questions. We looked at the obstacles, one being that we would need special permission to open this fall from both the State Charter Board and State Board of Education. We also would need to determine if the community would appreciate this option and enroll their children.
American Prep has received a waiver from the State Charter Board to open this fall, and the State Board of Education will consider this request May 7, 2026.
American Prep’s finance team has done the financial forecasts and has determined the project viable and has a Memorandum of Understanding with regard to APA leasing the building from Lake Mountain.
American Prep’s operational team is working on assessing the facility to ensure we have a grasp on what might be needed to operate.
We now need to determine if there will be sufficient enrollment at the school to operate in the fall. Our minimum number of enrolled students is 100. Currently, we understand there are 106 students enrolled.
Our goal is to have parents enroll their students prior to the May 7th state board meeting to show there is strong community interest in this option.
