K - 12 Enrollment Process

A Tuition-Free Charter School for Every Learner

We’re thrilled you’re interested in joining our community of scholars, leaders, and builders of character. As a tuition-free public charter school, we’re proud to offer a high-quality education accessible to all families. Please view the steps below to see our step-by-step enrollment process.

Step One: Campus Tour & Assessment

The mandatory first step is to attend a guided tour. You’ll see our vibrant classrooms, meet our dedicated teachers, and learn what makes APA an exceptional educational choice.

Student Assessment: While touring, your child(ren) will complete a short, free academic assessment (math and reading). This is used only to determine their current ability level so we can place them in the appropriate ability-based groups upon enrollment (in math, reading, and spelling). This is crucial for maximizing their academic success.

Step Two: Complete the Official Application

Once your tour and assessment are complete, you will be emailed the official application form.

Filling out and submitting this form completes your application to our enrollment lottery.

Step 3: Lottery Placement

All completed applications are placed into our official enrollment lottery. If a seat is available, our enrollment team will contact you directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Important Enrollment Window & Offer Dates

Our priority sibling enrollment window is November 1st – December 1st. This ensures priority enrollment before the public lottery.

Families will be notified of sibling enrollment offers the week of January 5th. The public lottery is on January 20th.

Transfer Window and Offer Dates

The transfer application window is November 1st – December 15th, which ensures priority is given before our first public lottery.

The first transfer offers will be sent on January 5th.

Transfer applications will be reviewed for offers again on May 1st and July 1st.

How do I enroll a sibling of a currently attending APA student?

Siblings receive a priority status in our enrollment lottery. To enroll a sibling, please follow these steps:

  • Sign up for a tour at the campus where you’d like to enroll the student.
  • When booking the tour, be sure to select ‘yes’ when the form asks if the student is a sibling.
  • Confirm your sibling status when you arrive for the tour, and you will then proceed with only the assessment portion of the tour.
  • After the assessment, you will receive an email with our formal sibling application.
When will I find out if my child is offered a seat?

The first lottery will be run on January 20, 2026. Students are selected at random until all available spaces are filled. Any remaining applicants are placed on a waiting list and offered enrollment if space becomes available.

How do I transfer my child to a different APA campus?

The transfer application can be found at the following link: Transfer Application

What is the age cutoff for Kindergarten enrollment?

All kindergarten students must turn five years old by September 1 to enroll in a public school in Utah.

When should I begin the enrollment process for Kindergarten?

You should begin the process in the November prior to your child being old enough to start Kindergarten. Our lottery for the following school year opens every year on Black Friday. We cannot take kindergarten applications until this time.

After a lottery, are accepted students notified through a mass email?

Yes, we send an individual acceptance email immediately to each accepted family, rather than mass emails. This allows us to verify the student’s information as well as any siblings the family is enrolling. While this process may take a little longer, it helps increase the chances of having all of your children enrolled at the same time.

If my child is not accepted, will I be notified?

Because our lotteries are “rolling”, and students withdraw at various times all throughout the process, we do not notify parents that their students are not selected.  You are welcome to email your campus registrar to get a status update on your application.

My student is in 6th grade at an APA campus. How do I enroll them in 7th grade at the secondary campus?

You will not need to do anything special to enroll your student at the secondary campus. All 6th graders are automatically given a 7th grade seat, provided you have completed the re-enrollment process. Please watch for information from your student’s current campus concerning re-enrollment and celebration of excellence meetings.

Is there tuition or fees associated with attending American Prep for K-12 students?

American Prep is a tuition-free public charter school. We do not have tuition for any of our K-12th grade students. Some fees are charged in grades 7th-12th, which is the same as attending any traditional public school.
