Charter schools are governed by a governing board. The name of American Preparatory Academy’s Salt Lake County Governing Board is Utah Charter Academies, or UCA. UCA governs all schools located in Salt Lake County including Draper I, Draper II, Draper III, West Valley I, West Valley II, and Salem. The Las Vegas school is governed by a separate governing board.
UCA currently consists of six board members. Their names are: Brad Findlay (Chairman), Clay Hatch (West Valley II representative), Stacy McNeill (West Valley I representative), Dee Henderson (Salem representative), Sean Estes (Draper II representative), and Thomas Young (Draper I representative).
Board members usually serve for 2-5 years, although there is no term limit on governing board positions. When a governing board seat opens up, the board will petition for applications via the parent newsletter.
Public governing board meetings are typically held on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:00 at one of the APA schools. The annual schedule of board meetings is posted below; however these meetings may change. Since the board members are volunteers, the meetings work around their schedules and are not always held on the scheduled date. But, the agenda is always posted on the state’s public notice website at least 24 hours in advance per Utah State Law. These meetings are open to the public: parents and other interested parties are encouraged to attend. Public comment is available at the beginning of every board meeting.
