Utah Charter Academies Governing Board

Charter schools are governed by a governing board.  The name of American Preparatory Academy’s Utah Governing Board is Utah Charter Academies, or UCA.  UCA governs all schools located in Utah including Draper I, Draper II, Draper III, West Valley I, West Valley II, the Early Learning Center and Salem.

UCA currently consists of five board members.  Their names are: Dee Henderson (Chairman), Thomas Young, Stephanie Henderson, Brad Blanchard, and Ted Heap.

Board members usually serve for 2-5 years, although there is no term limit on governing board positions.  When a governing board seat opens up, the board will petition for applications via the parent newsletter.

Public governing board meetings are regularly held on the 4th Thursday of the month at 7:00 at one of the APA schools.  Since the board members are volunteers, the meetings work around their schedules and are not always held on the scheduled date. But, the agenda is always posted on the state’s public notice website at least 24 hours in advance per Utah State Law.  These meetings are open to the public: parents and other interested parties are encouraged to attend.  Public comment is available at the beginning of every board meeting. The board’s bylaws can be found here.
